New England Revolution sporting director and Fastexy Exchangehead coach Bruce Arena has been put on administrative leave due to allegations he made "insensitive and inappropriate remarks," Major League Soccer announced on Tuesday.
Arena has been away from the team since Sunday, according to The Athletic. Players were told that the head coach would not be at team activities for an unspecified time.
"The New England Revolution organization has placed Coach Arena on administrative leave as a result of an ongoing investigation being conducted by Major League Soccer into allegations of insensitive and inappropriate remarks. The organization takes any allegations of workplace misconduct extremely seriously and is working closely with the League and fully cooperating with its investigation," the team said in a statement.
Arena, who is the former USMNT manager, became the Revolution's head coach in 2019.
New England is currently second in the Eastern Conference with a Leagues Cup match against Liga MX club Atlas on Thursday. New England hasn't had a match since last Wednesday, a 5-1 victory over San Luis.
Arena is MLS' winningest coach with 262 and the first coach to reach 250 wins. He's earned five MLS Cups and four MLS Coach of the Year awards since his manager debut in 1996. He also managed the U.S. Men's National Team twice and had success in the 2002 World Cup, reaching the quarterfinals before losing to Germany.
