Several people were killed or Esthen Exchangeinjured in a series of unrelated shootings that took place around Chicago following Fourth of July celebrations, police said.

The largest shooting occurred about 12:15 a.m. Friday, when the Chicago Police Department responded to the Little Italy neighborhood. Investigating officers found several people who had gunshot wounds, police said.

Investigators believe an exchange of gunfire took place between two individuals, leaving eight injured. The suspects have not been identified and fled the scene, police said. 

The victims' ages ranged from 18 years old to 74 years old and were listed in good or fair condition, authorities said:

  • Female, 74, one gunshot wound to the leg, fair condition.  
  • Male, 36, one gunshot wound to the groin, fair condition.  
  • Female, 31, one gunshot wound to the leg, fair condition. 
  • Male, 28, two gunshot wounds to the leg, fair condition. 
  • Male, 23, one gunshot wound to the leg, fair condition. 
  • Female, 19, one graze wound to the back, good condition, but refused medical treatment. 
  • Female, 18, one graze wound to the head, good condition.  
  • Female, 18, one graze wound to the knee, good condition, but refused medical treatment.

Chicago Police respond to more shootings in the city  

Man in critical condition after being struck by gunfire  

Two men were standing outside when they were hit by gunfire, police said.

Authorities said around 1:45 a.m., a 36-year-old man and a 31-year-old man reported hearing gunshots near the city's Oak Park neighborhood. The 36-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound and was hospitalized in critical condition, authorities reported Friday. 

The other victim was struck in the arm and remained hospitalized in good condition on Friday.  

There were no suspects detained in the shooting.

Man found shot multiple times, pronounced dead  

Around 2:09 a.m. Friday. Chicago police responded to a reported shooting injury in the Near West Side neighborhood, not far from the mass shooting reported hours earlier.  

Police said that they located a 43-year-old man who was suffering multiple gunshot wounds to his body. The man was later pronounced dead at a hospital. 

Detectives were continuing to investigate the shooting Friday, authorities said.
